 DESERT TOUR 1

THE GREAT LIBYAN SAHARA – 15 DAYS 14 NIGHTS

Day 1:Airport - Tripoli

Arrival at  airport. Meeting with our assistant who will assist you during the whole  journey . Arrival at Tripoli in the evening. Dinner and overnight in hotel. 

Day 2: Tripoli - Ghadames (600 Km)

After breakfast, departure through the arid regions of the Libyan plateau to the desert border, where there is Ghadames Oasis. Stop at Gasser Nalut and lunch at Nalut in a typical restaurant. Arrival in evening at Ghadames. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

DAY 3,4,5,6:Ghadames – Ghat (700 km)

Breakfast in hotel. Full day tour of the ancient city and the Oasis .Ghadames "The Desert pearl" known since Roman time (being the most southern point of the Empire ) for its architecture, typical of this area of the Sahara .Ancient "port of call" for all the caravans coming from Central Africa ,it is also the doorway to the Saharan Desert. Meeting in the afternoon with an experience Twareg guide and departure (by4x4 vehicle equipped for the desert life). Slowly proceeding into the Saharan desert, following an old road that runs along the Algerian border, sealing on a sea of and rocks among dunes like enormous waves, in an endless quietness, driving southwards. Turning off along the Wadi Irawan route to arrive near Germa to visit the ruins of Germa (the ancient capital of the Garamanti empire mostly still buried) like the Tombs of the Kings .From Germa to Ghat, Twareg town, overlooked by the ruins of an ancient fort. Camp will be set up the first day at Bir Atshan, the second day at Wadi Irawan and the third day near Ghat. Full board. Dinner in Ghat around a campfire with a traditional Twareg show. Overnight in tents. 

Day 7,8:Ghat - Akakus (70 Km)

Leaving from Ghat, descending to the Tadrart Akakus region ,with the most beautiful Saharan landscapes and with the most beautiful prehistoric drawings we know (dating back to 8000-10000A.C) representing animals that live only in the African Savannah, testifying an habitat that has totally disappeared. From the sea of sand rise up rocks like icebergs, that has been transformed by the wind through the centuries into real sculptures or natural arches of rare beauty. The first day you will set up the camp in the Takharkhuri region, the second at Wadi Adad (the region of cave paintings)Full board. Overnight in tents. 

Day 9:Wadi Adad – Gabroun (430km)

Leaving Wadi Adad northward passing through al-Awaynat (where it is possible to an old castle) arriving in the region of Ramlat Dawada, with its lakes each one with its own particular characteristics. Traveling off-road and climbing up the moving dunes you will see lake Umm al-Maa, lake Mandara surrounded by palm trees and finally the great lake of Gabroun, mirror of an enormous dune. Setting up of the camp by this lake. Full board. Overnight in tents. 

Day 10: Gabroun - Murzuk (170 km)

From this region with all its lakes we will move to the old capital and center of Fezzan: Marzuk, a city with a glorious past. At the end of 17 the century it was the arrival point of the first European discovering expeditions to North Africa. You will visit the old city with its castle and one of the most impressive mosques in Libya, characterized by its curved minaret shaped just like a banana. Set up camp nearby. Full board. 

Day 11,12:Murzuk - WawelKabir- WawelNamus(500 km)

Departure from Murzuk to Waw elKabir and setting up of the camp. Overnight in tents. The following day you will experience the unique excursion to Waw el Namus. You will go from the classical colors of the Saharan Desert to a gray ,moon-like desert. Waw el Namus is a volcano therefore all the area is sprinkled with ash and solidified lava, while, unexpectedly considering its latitude, a small lake has formed in its crater .Full in tents. 

Day 13:Waw elKabir - Gariat(775 km)

Departure from Waw elKabir northwards passing through the large oasis in the Zuela region, (where you can admire the last landscapes of large dunes)on to Gariat where this off the road ends and the Twareg guide leave us. Lunch on the way. Dinner and overnight in Gariat. 

Day 14:Gariat

After breakfast departure by coach from Gariat to the Tripoli  through Mizda and Picnic lunch on the way. Arrival in the evening . dinner and overnight in the hotel

Day 15 Gariat- Tripoli - Airport

After breakfast, full day tour of Tripoli. You will admire the old city with the Medina, The Souk, The Arch of Marco Aurelio and The Arab Castle "Assrai Al-Hamra". The castle is actually the sight of national museum; it conserves the biggest part of the archaeological Artifacts found in Libya from prehistoric times to our days, including the Greek and Roman periods. Here you Can admire one of the most beautiful classical art exhibitions in the Mediterranean. Lunch in hotel Transfer to the airport and departure to your destination. 

  DESERT TOUR 2

FEZZAN REGION – 12 DAYS 11 NIGHTS

Day 1:Airport - Tripoli

Arrival at airport. Meeting with our assistant who will assist you during the whole t journey . Arrival at Tripoli in the evening. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 2:Tripoli – Sabha (780 Km)

After breakfast , departure southwards to Sabha the Fezzan capital. This area with its oasis was atop-over point for all the caravans making their way to Central Africa. Its oasis surrounded by the sands of the Saharan desert, its moonlike rocky formations ,its multicolored lakes, its prehistoric pictures and rock sculptures and the remains of the great Garamantes civilization(of which we still know very little) offer unforgettable landscapes. Leaving the cost behind (following the asphalt roads) the tour proceeds to the Libyan plateau passing by Garian and Gariat Picnic lunch on the way .Arrival in the evening at Sabha. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day3 :Sabha–Bergug  230 km                                                           Meeting with an experienced Twareg guide and departure by 4*4 vehicles equipped for the desert life to Bergug where prehistoric engravings have been discovered. It is 330 km from Sabha, 160 km of asphalt roads and 170 km of desert roads. Full board. Overnight in tents in a Wadi (the so-called seasonal streams).

Day 4:Bergug - Germa (180 km)

Departure from Bergug To Germa to visit surrounding rests of Germa, the ancient capital of the Garamanti, the majority still buried. Visit the Mjerment ruins and the Tombs of the Kings. Full board. Overnight in tents in the area of Wadi Irawan. 

Day 5: Germa - Gabroun (80 km)

Excursion to the lakes of Ramlat Dawada, each one with its own characteristics. Traveling off road and climbing up the moving dunes we will see: Lake Um al-Maa, lake Mandara surrounded by palm trees and finally the lake of Gabroun, wonderful mirror of an enormous dune. Full board. Overnight in tents. 

Day 6: Gabroun - Wadi Zallaf (120 km)

Departure northwards leaving the lake of Gabroun to Wadi Zallaf surrounded by dunes. Full board. Overnight in campsite in the area of Idri. 

Day 7: Idri - Awenat Onin (140 Km)

Leaving Idri traveling northwards crossing the dunes and finally arriving in the region of Awenat Onin where we will  spend the night. Full board. Overnight in tents. 

Day 8: Awenat Onin - Ghadames (410 km)

After breakfast from Awenat Onin we will slowly leave behind the desert sands and begin crossing rocky land to Ghadames oasis, where this off-road journey ends and the Twareg guide leaves us. Lunch on the way. Dinner and Overnight in hotel. 

Day 9:Ghadames

Breakfast in hotel. Full day tour of the old city , the Oasis and museum. Ghadames, "The Desert Pearl" known since Roman times (was the most southern point of the Empire), famous for its architecture, typical of this area of the Sahara.  Ancient "port of call" for all the caravans coming from Central Africa, it is also the doorway to the Saharan Desert. Lunch in traditional restaurant visiting the Museum and lake Ain Mejazzim . sunset the sand around a campfire with Twareg, music and dances. Overnight in hotel. 

Day 10:Ghadames - Tripoli (600 km)

Breakfast. Morning departure forward Tripoli .Short visit to Gasser Kabaw. Picnic lunch on the way . Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 11: Tripoli

After breakfast, full day tour of Tripoli. You will admire the old city with the Medina, The Souk, The Arch of Marco Aurelio and The Arab Castle "Assrai Al-Hamra". The castle is actually the sight of national museum; it conserves the biggest part of the archaeological Artifacts found in Libya from prehistoric times to our days, including the Greek and Roman periods. Here you Can admire one of the most beautiful classical art exhibitions in the Mediterranean. Lunch in hotel. Traditional Dinner in a typical restaurant Dinner lnd . Overnight in the hotel. 

Day 12: Tripoli- Sebratha- Airport  (145 Km)

After breakfast, departure to Sebratha, Roman City in Tripolitania. Visit to the archaeological excavations famous for the theater ruins, which dominate the panorama with their Impressive scenery (on three levels). Lunch in restaurant near the excavations. Transfer to the airport and departure to your destination.   

 

      DESERT TOUR 3

AKAKUS REGION – 14 DAYS 13 NIGHTS

Day 1:Airport - Tripoli

Arrival at  airport. Meeting with our assistant who will assist you during the whole journey . Arrival at Tripoli in the evening. Dinner and overnight in hotel. 

Day 2: Tripoli - Ghadames (600 Km)

Day 4,5,6 :Ghadames - Ghat (700 Km)

Meeting with a Twareg guide and departure (on a 4x4 vehicle equipped for the desert life) southwards to the Sahara desert following an old road that runs along the Algerian border. Sealing on a sea of sand and rocks among dunes like enormous waves, in an endless quietness towards Ghat, crossing the regions of Tinghart and Adhan Ubari. Set-up of the camp near Tanhitan and Bir Atshan. Full board. 

Day 7:Ghat

Ghat is a Twareg town in the middle of the Akakus region, An ancient stopover point for caravans traveling to Mali, it was built at the foot of a rock which is towered over by the  day tour remains of an ancient fort. Full day tour of Ghat. Full board. Traditional dinner around a Twareg campfire. Set up camp near the dunes and overnight in tents.

Day 8,9,10:Ghat – Akakus (70 Km)

During the day arrival at Al Awaynat where this off-road journey ends and the Twareg guide leaves us. The  tour goes by usual transportation to Sabha, The Fezzan Capital. Full board. Overnight in a little hotel.

Day 12: Sabha - Tripoli (780 km)

After breakfast early departure to Tripoli northwards, leaving the desert behind, passing by Gariat and Garian (last town before the descent from the Libyan plateau to the coast). picnic lunch on the way. Arrival in the late evening in Tripoli. Dinner and overnight in hotel. 

Day 13: Tripoli – Sebratha

After breakfast, departure to Sebratha, Roman City in Tripolitania. Visit to the archaeological excavations famous for the theater ruins, which dominate the panorama with their Impressive scenery (on three levels). Lunch in restaurant near the excavations. Transfer to the Tripoli  and dinner and overnight in the hotel
